English Language Program (ELP)
What is the English Language Program?
The English Language Program (ELP) is designed to help students meet the English language requirement for George Mason University. Full-time ELP students study 20 hours per week in a variety of dynamic, interactive classes.
How will the English Language Program prepare you to be a student at George Mason University, Ras al Khaimah campus?
The ELP teaches reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and strategies needed to be a successful university student.
- Students read and listen to real English from academic sources.
- Instructors are professional and experienced. Each has a Master's degree in teaching English.
- Classes are small with an average size of 15.
- The latest materials and method are used.
English Language Program Admission Policy
Minimum Requirements to be Considered for Admission
- A minimum of 2 years of passing grades in high school English.
- A minimum level in the placement test conducted on the George Mason University – Ras Al Khaimah Campus.
Application Procedures
For consideration for admission to the English Language Program, applicants must submit:
- A completed Application for the English Language Program (see link below)
- A nonrefundable application and testing fee
- A copy of the high school examination mark sheet, i.e., GSSC or its equivalent translated into English.
- A copy of your passport
Restrictions
- Admission to the English Language Program does not guarantee admission to George Mason University.
- A separate application to the university will need to be made and all of the requirements of university admission must be met to be considered for admission to the university undergraduate program.
- The amount of time needed to complete the Foundation Program depends on the amount of English that students already knows upon entering ELP and the amount of individual progress that the student makes in the Program itself. There is no guaranteed timeline to achieve the minimum performance level in English to meet the University requirements. The English language requirement for admission to the University is based solely upon these performance criteria and not on the amount of time spent in the Foundation Program. Students may advance rapidly or slowly, depending on the student's level of English and dedication.
